A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. It is an unreasonable intense fear of something or some situations, which is developed when a person has an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger. People with phobias often know that their response to such thing or situation is irrational, but still can not control it.

Anxiety levels dramatically increase whenever the person approaches a phobic stimulus. This response is the body’s natural defence system or stress response, and the phobia sufferer mostly tends to do everything to avoid such circumstances.
